Nestled in the heart of Midtown Tulsa, our central office is home to Dr. Joaquin Tosi, a distinguished board-certified vitreoretinal specialist whose expertise and dedication to ophthalmology are not merely professional but are deeply rooted in a rich family tradition. Dr. Tosi represents the third generation of ophthalmologists in his family, following in the illustrious footsteps of his grandfather, Dr. Bruno Tosi, a revered figure in the field, known for his tenure as Chairman of Ophthalmology and Vice-Dean at the Medical School, where he mentored numerous physicians.
Dr. Tosi's impressive foundation in ophthalmology was laid at the Instituto de la Vision, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he completed both his residency in ophthalmology and retina fellowship. His quest for further knowledge and specialization led him to New York, where he undertook a post-doctoral research fellowship in Retinal Degenerations and Electrophysiology at Columbia University, under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Stephen Tsang.
Continuing his journey in the United States, Dr. Tosi completed his residency in ophthalmology and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship training under the guidance of Dr. Gary Abrams at the Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. In 2016, Dr. Tosi was appointed as the Director of the Retina Service of the Ophthalmology Division and Director of Visual Electrophysiology Laboratory at UNM, where he founded first Retina Dystrophy clinic in the state of New Mexico. Before joining Tulsa Retina Consultants in 2023, Dr. Tosi enriched his experience in one of New York's premier ophthalmology practices, where he served for two years. Throughout his career, Dr. Tosi has been at the forefront of retinal clinical research, serving as principal investigator in numerous pivotal trials. His extensive research work is well-documented in a variety of peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Tosi's clinical expertise spans a comprehensive range of conditions and surgeries related to the retina and vitreous. He specializes in managing complex eye conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, secondary intraocular lens fixation, macular and submacular surgery, retinal vascular disease, age-related macular degeneration, ocular trauma, and ocular inflammation. Dr. Tosi is licensed to practice in Oklahoma and holds esteemed memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care and staying abreast of the latest advancements in his field.

Teaching: Prior to joining Tulsa Retina Consultants, Dr. Tosi served as a full-time faculty member at the University of New Mexico as the Director of the Retina Service. He has been involved in the training of medical students, ophthalmology residents and vitreoretinal fellows. He has contributed to a number of publications and medical journals and lectures at both local and national ophthalmology conferences. Research and Special Interests: Dr. Tosi served as an investigator in a number of clinical research trials for the treatments of macular degeneration and other retinal disorders. His clinical interests include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, retinal vascular disease, and other complications of cataract surgery.
